I tried several times, but it didn't work.  Then, I read your message,
tried again, and it did work.  I'm sure I was d'n'd'ing the same as
before (i.e. the d'n'd icon over the phone icon -> the phone icon reacts
by showing it is selected).  

I guess the problem is that with big icons, you tend to put the icon
itself over the phone, rather than the pointer.  The pointer is in the
lower right corner of the image icon, which is not directly over the
phone icon when.  This ends up being a simple nautilus usability issue.
