[gnome-bluetooth] Can't get instance of BT Manager

Hi
I've seen previous questions on this, but not seen a solution.

Running SuSE 8.2 with Ximian Desktop 2 (Gnome-based), on a Dell C610
laptop with a Socket Bluetooth adapter (CF in a PCMCIA adapter). I have
installed libbtctl and gnome-bluetooth, but running
gnome-bluetooth-admin I get:

** (gnome-bluetooth-admin:28295): WARNING **: Couldn't get instance of
BT Manager

and nothing happens.  No messages in dmesg or /var/log/messages either.

Any ideas, anyone?
