Summary:                    Tests fail because diff doesn't accept -u flag
Description: 
Some old diff programs on some semi-modern operating systems do not accept the
-u flag. This causes tests to fail.

Additional Information: 
Rather than changing the test to figure out what to do with an old diff, we just
allow the user to set DIFF=gnudiff in the environment.
