Welcome to the xml-hypertext mailing list. The xml-hypertext list is
an open forum for the discussion of creating hypertext with XML.
Appropriate subjects include technologies for linking and pointing,
hypertext-oriented transformations, and interactions between XML and
Web infrastructure.
There has already been a good deal of work done in this space, though
"SGML for the Web" hasn't exactly taken off. A few relevant projects
(and there are many beyond these) include:
XLink & XPointer: http://www.w3.org/XML/Linking
XHTML: http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/
RDF: http://www.w3.org/RDF/
Topic Maps: http://topicmaps.org/
HLink: http://www.w3.org/TR/hlink/
SMIL: http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/
SkunkLink: http://dubinko.info/writing/skunklink/
VELLUM: http://simonstl.com/projects/vellum/
A fair amount of prior discussion has taken place on the
www-xml-linking-comments@w3.org mailing list:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-xml-linking-comments/
This list addresses a broader range of concerns than
www-xml-linking-comments, and is intended to be a discussion list, not a
one-way comment list. Discussion of linking issues is also fairly
common on the www-tag@w3.org mailing list:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-tag/
There was also prior discussion of XML and hypertext at
xlxp-dev@fsc.fujitsu.com, but the archives seem to have disappeared. If
anyone can find those, please post the address to the list.
The xml-dev list is an excellent resource for XML questions:
http://lists.xml.org/archives/xml-dev/
Similarly, XSL-list is an excellent resource for XSLT and XSL-FO
questions:

Many thanks to xmlhack.com for hosting this list!
