+1. Still, an W3C XML schema and/or a Relax NG schema could be written 
for "plain" XML authors, preserving the RDF XML serialization. From that 
point and after, developers can have the choice of viewing XML or an RDF 
model. An XML based implementation of FOAF would actually be an RDF 
implementation only working for FOAF documents...
