Which is why it would be nice to have new rel: terms that are FPs (or 
IFPs, but these seem much harder to think of for rel:), such as 
biological mother/father. With these, it would be possible to construct 
an identifying link back to people who are dead, so long as you can 
connect them with descendants who have more common FP/IFPs (homepage, 
mbox, &c.). It's not a solution to every case, but it would help.
