edd,

let me introduce myself a bit first:
im Cies Breijs, ICT student in rotterdam in the 3rd (final) year of my
Bachelor. my major is 'information systems' which requires me to
do/create some semantic web research/application.

free software is one of the main reasons i was drawn back to IT in the
first place. i'm on the free software track since 1997. right now i
write C++ for a project initiated by me called KTurtle, educational
programming environment for KDE; i write ruby both 'on rails' and for
all my scripts; for school i learned and practised quite a bit of
java.

my initial idea, for the 'information systems' school project, was to
semantify a lot of free/open software related resources found on the
web. most freesoftware projects have a few of these: apidocs,
mailinglists, issue trackers, wiki's, code repositories...
these resources are mostly available in html, but generated: so they
could easily be extended with a RDF wrapper.

in this scenario a central piece of the puzzle was needed, namely an
ontology for a 'project'. this would then be the central point for
linking to all the other (semantified) resources.

then i found your (?) DOAP project.

i read all about it, and tried to understand it. i had some ideas that
where not implemented in DOAP, mainly: dependencies and project
relations.

dependencies: like for package managers
software relations: like subProjectOf, superProjectOf, similarToProject

my mentor in university suggested that i first create an owl ontology
using the 'protege' tool that implements all i want. so i did and i
have added it to this email by attachment. you can ask me anything
regarding this work.

if you have the time maybe you can answer the following questions:

1) what do you think of incorporating dependencies and project relations in=
 DOAP
2) what do you think of my ontology
3) do you have any suggestions for features/extentions of DOAP
yourself (i want to work on anything in like with my school project)
4) when linking to an external project resource (like a mailing list,
issue tracker, or api docs) it kind of expects a website, do you think
any modification is needed for linking semantified rdf resources for
these?
5) ...

thanks for reading,
looking forward to your reply!

_cies.
